Yes. The 8-inch drop-stitch core is the same construction used in rescue platforms, thousands of internal threads hold it rigid at pressure, so it absorbs impact instead of bottoming out like a 1-inch puzzle tile.
10x10 fits one-on-one drilling, kids' rounds and solo work, it's what most families start with. Go 10x15 if two pairs will be on the mat at once, or if you're doing throws and want runoff room. If you're between them, take the 10x15; nobody has ever told us their mat was too big.
